4.5 miles
City of Oklahoma City
The City of Oklahoma City selected Halff through ODOT’s Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) to design the Deep Fork Creek Trail.
The 4.5-mile trail will connect the Grand Boulevard Trail in northwest Oklahoma City to the Katy Trail in northeast Oklahoma City, providing bicycle and pedestrian access to family destinations in the Adventure District including the OKC Zoo, Science Museum of Oklahoma, National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, and the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex. The trail is one of the last segments to complete a 28-mile loop around downtown Oklahoma City. The trail meanders along a narrow and heavily vegetated corridor with challenging terrain between the Deep Fork River and Interstate 44.
Halff’s scope of work includes preparing preliminary and final design drawings for the trail alignment, structural design for retaining walls and pedestrian bridges, hydrology and hydraulics modeling, drainage improvements, intersection crossings, preservation of existing trees, adherence to City standards and ODOT specifications/requirements, ADA compliance and project management.
Project components include a 12-foot-wide concrete trail, nine pedestrian bridge crossings, three highway underpasses, trailhead and neighborhood access, and signage/wayfinding amenities. The trail is funded by federal funds and Oklahoma City general obligation bond funds and will meet AASHTO specifications for trails.
